Perhaps one of the most idyllic beaches in all of the east coast is Island Beach, once known as Little Captain’s Island. Only accessible by ferry during the summer months, the island lies just off the coast of Greenwich, Connecticut. Of course, boaters can reach it year round, but the ferry is the easiest way to get to and from for those visiting with a boat! For much of its recent history, the island has been owned by private individuals, but it’s belonged to the state of Connecticut since 1973. Similarly to Island Beach, Great Captain’s Island is only accessible by boat or ferry, and the ferry runs from June – September, each year. Aside from the stunning beaches, the island features a historic lighthouse that dates back to 1829.
